Recent research has made a bold claim: prolonged social isolation and loneliness are equivalent to smoking three-quarters of a pack of cigarettes daily. Being part of a community is essential for health and well-being. It provides a sense of belonging and connection, reduces stress, and increases happiness and physical health. It also has a positive effect on mental health, offering comfort, support, and self-esteem while reducing loneliness and providing a sense of purpose.
I spoke with Larissa, Co-Founder, and CEO of Coteria (www.activecoterie.com). Larissa saw an opportunity to build a solution for the growing number of women looking for a community based on sports. Coterie is creating an online community hub to empower women by making sports more accessible through technology. Esker was launched in 2018 by Shannon Davenport. After a decade of working in New York City as a trend forecaster, where she helped major corporate brands shape their identities based on her research across beauty, design, art, and consumer trends, she decided to launch Esker as a way to act on her own ideas and build the brand she wanted to see in the world. She knew she wanted to create a brand with integrity and honesty as its cornerstones, and to make clean, safe products that nourish the body and elevate the way we care for it.
As she discovered the benefits of plant-based beauty and body care, she fell in love. She enrolled at the New York Institute of Aromatherapy, where she received her certification in aromatherapy and became a NAHA Aromatherapy Advocate. She soon realized that the beauty industry didn’t seem to take the clean movement seriously and that body care was consistently an afterthought. Esker was born right around the same time as Shannon's first child. She introduced the line with three custom-crafted body oil formulas carefully formulated with responsibly-sourced ingredients to nourish skin from head to toe.
By leveraging high-quality, natural essential oil formulations beneficial to the skin, Esker aims to transform simple body care routines into meditative rituals that heal, restore, and hydrate skin. Esker is carefully crafted in the US. Our family-operated business was created in Los Angeles, and the brand is now based in Austin.

#entrepreneurship #startup #business #invest #founder #adamtheory My name is Adam Choe, and this is my channel. I'm an investor, recovering entrepreneur, former managing director of a startup accelerator, an adjunct professor, a former research fellow, and a curious learner testing the theories of everyday life one theory at a time. This channel is dedicated to talking about all things entrepreneurship, investing, relevant current events, and other random topics that I think could be interesting or helpful to talk about. I'm a first-generation Asian-American, and my family came from South Korea 40+ years ago. Just trying to figure out this game called life one day at a time. Thanks for checking out the channel. As Founder and CEO, Elizabeth Orme leads Creatively Focused's strategic growth and vision of supporting the career success and retention of special educators. Her background as a researcher, special education teacher, and district special education director fuels her work to make sure every special educator feels their job can be a career. Creatively Focused was founded in 2016 as a service organization for school districts across Minnesota. In 2021, Creatively Focused launched axis3, a national, web-based platform providing special educators with intentional, on demand support.
Elizabeth was part of the Lunar Startups Accelerator, which uplifts underrepresented business owners, particularly women, nonbinary people, and people of color. Creatively Focused was named a Top 20 Startup to Watch and Startup on Fire by MinneInno. Elizabeth was recently a featured guest on Edmentum's September 2022 Podcast: Realizing the Promise of Special Education. Research has led Elizabeth to projects with the University of Kansas, and published articles with the University of Chicago's Spatial Intelligence and Learning Center. Elizabeth holds an Education Specialist degree with Principal and Special Education Director licensure at the University of St. Thomas, a Masters in Elementary and Special Education from DePaul University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Iowa.
